Canada’s Baking and Sweets Show

This past weekend was Canada’s Baking and Sweets Show in Toronto. It first came to my attention with the introduction of the “Wonut” and as soon as I knew it was happening, I had to go! A room filled with cake? Try and stop me. This year’s theme was “Wizard of Oz” for the cake competition, So I threw together my best “Modern Day Dorothy” outfit before I left the house! The button down is Tommy Hilfiger, with just a simple blue tank underneath and my Calvin Kline jeggings and a brown braided belt. Paired with my red pumps I was almost ready… But no Toto! Quickly resolved that a black bag is the next best thing considering my lack of puppy, Grabbed my over sized Kate Spade so I could easily carry my camera then hit the show! This was the first thing I saw when I entered the Show… I was not disappointed! From there I did my best to wander the whole show and take pictures and make notes before making my selection from all the goodies! The show had lots going on, including Baking Tutorials for Children and Adults alike, as well as an Ice Carving competition happening near the back. There is something so cool about watching someone with a chainsaw create something beautiful out of huge slabs of ice (which are themselves quite beautiful). Of course there was a bevy of other things going on, aside from the swans (get it?) I decided it was high time that I check out some of the fabulously designed cakes! The first one I saw was a tad creepy.. but some of the other creations were incredible. It’s amazing what people can do with fondant. That’s when I saw it. The social media cake. I figured it was a sign! I was very very excited and immediately had my picture taken with it! Aside from an overwhelming number of cakes, the show also featured great deals on baking supplies and general kitchen supplies. Aprons, pizza stones, blenders and juicers, knives and fun sprinkles. Basically everything you could ever need in a kitchen under one roof, as well as some things you really don’t need but kind of want an excuse to buy… Aside from cake (so much cake) the show also featured different sweets and smaller baked goods. This was where my self control was REALLY tested (and ultimately failed). Everything was so bright and wonderful, it didn’t take much to realize why they had decided to make the theme “Wizard of Oz”. After walking the whole show, I finally caved and made some purchases of my own. My first stop was to the Select Bakery booth to pick myself up some Honey Balls. For $3 per dozen, my heart was a flutter and it didn’t take long before I was digging in. My next stop was to the AG Macarons booth. There’s something so tempting about those colourful cookies and I couldn’t say no! These I somehow managed to get home (rather then devouring them on site). I made myself a cup of tea, got out my book, and wound down from the show before I let myself pick one… Which was difficult since they were just tempting me the whole time. It was worth the wait. I am one happy blogger! Canada’s Baking and Sweets show returns next year! Don’t miss out it’s a great time!
